Check for a new version of iTunes on Mac. On Mac OS X, there are also two ways to check for iTunes updates: If needed, open iTunes; Click on the iTunes menu; Choose 'Check for Updates' After a second or two, iTunes will either tell you that you have the current version of iTunes, or open the Software Update to download the latest version. I got iTunes 1.7.1.9 and I am happy with it. Picasa a program by google is requesting a Quicktime Update though, that's why I ask. If I update Quicktime, iTunes is gonna be updated too I believe. I am using SSL 1.9.0.35 The iTunes library is large, roughly 18,000 songs, but that's not really the big deal its the fact that I store special tags in my genres and so there are currently 780 genres, 8448 Artists and 2639 Albums. I most have close to 100 Playlists and SmartPlaylists. Prior to 1.8 my iTunes database loaded much faster, but something was changed at that time which slowed things down. I have been using an external drive for years, since 1.6. I store the music and database on an external USB2.0 drive. All maintenance is done on both the internal and external drives to keep them healthy. There is about 200 gigs worth of music. I just updated to 1.9.2 (latest) • But check this, I made my big first breakthrough in a long time in regards to this situation: I have a second, identical laptop I just purchased to work as a backup at my shows should anything go south with my main laptop. Everything is the same, there are only a couple of things that are different between the two. - the amount of RAM (1GB on the backup laptop and 2GB on the main laptop) - backup laptop has Vista pro while my main lappy has XP pro. Not a big deal (I thought), with all the talk about XP being superior in terms of performance and compatibility I expected to have some problems with the backup laptop, specially running only 1GB of memory. I setup my drive mapping the way I have it on XP, etc, and when I loaded SSL on Vista everything loaded in under 30 seconds.
